On 24 June, an online meeting was held during which the CM / M APR Center of Excellence in Sabaudia (LT) presented the document “C-UAS Concept of Employment” (CONEMP) as part of the project that the aim of developing advanced and efficient systems capable of countering the new threats arising from the hostile use of mini and micro drones, for the protection of troops in operational theaters, military grounds / airports at home and abroad, or of the population on the occasion of major events.
The workshop took place in the presence of representatives of 8 different European nations (Finland, Spain, Holland, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Ireland and the Czech Republic) and the representative of the European Defense Agency (EDA) who were able to appreciate the potential of the Defense in the development of concepts in the C-UAS, a sector in which our country is among the most advanced in the European context. In particular, the document identifies and defines the concepts of use of a C-UAS system and represents a fundamental step for sharing the project among the participating countries for the development of an anti-drone system at European level.
Colonel Giorgio Cozzolino, Director of the Center and coordinator of the project also illustrated the capabilities developed by the antidrone component of the Army’s anti-aircraft artillery and subsequently presented the areas of operational use of the systems both in out-of-area operations and in activities of Homeland Security.
The PeSCo was established on 11 December 2017 and has 25 members among the EU nations, it is a permanent cooperation structure of the European Defense Agency operating in the area of defense and security policy and, for aspects relating to Counter Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) capacity, Italy holds the guidance through the Counter Mini / Micro Remotely Piloted Aircraft Center of Excellence (CDE CM / M APR) in Sabaudia.
