The RWM Italia (Rheinmetall Group) site becomes fully operational. The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has in fact approved – in implementation of the ruling of the Regional Administrative Court of 17 October 2025, which upheld RWM’s appeal noting the failure of the Sardinia Region to conclude the process aimed at regularizing the plants – the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure relating to the expansion works already carried out, thus definitively unblocking the full operation of the Domusnovas plant.
“The green light from the MASE to RWM Italia represents a decisive step for the relaunch of the Sulcis area. Now maximum commitment to production and employment development”, said the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, sen. Adolfo Urso.
The measure allows, in fact, to overcome a period of uncertainty and to guarantee the full production continuity of the site, opening a new path of industrial revival that will lead, once fully operational, to the stabilization of hundreds of workers and new jobs.
On the employment front, the Minister welcomed the start of the discussion between the Company and the Social Partners requested by the Ministry on the stabilization of jobs, with the first meeting already held on 20 January.
The approval of the EIA represents a fundamental step not only for the company’s production continuity and the protection of employment, but also as a concrete sign of attention to the economic revival of Sulcis, an area of strategic importance that requires solid and lasting industrial policies.
Rheinmetall produces the entire series of MK80 bombs (MK82, MK83, MK84) starting from the raw materials to the finished product, with continuous orders from numerous customers. Rheinmetall also offers an improved version, the MK-EP bomb, and the BLU-109 armor-piercing bomb for reinforced targets. The bomb bodies are entirely manufactured in-house in RWM Italia’s high-capacity production plant in Domusnovas, Sardinia, without any dependence on external suppliers. All bombs meet stringent military specifications and are fully compliant with U.S. standards, as certified by third parties such as Raytheon and Boeing.
