During the XXXII International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce (Poland), GRUPA WB (a company of WB Electronics S.A.) and Leonardo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exploring capabilities and perspectives in the Defence sector aimed at jointly developing new capabilities and promoting commercial opportunities for tactical unmanned aerial systems (UAS), including UAS integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and operations conducted with swarms and stray munitions.
GRUPA WB and Leonardo intend to seek commercial opportunities in Poland and export markets in the fields of light and medium tactical unmanned reconnaissance and attack systems. The signed MoU will enable joint initiatives in the field of industrial cooperation, based on autonomous aerial platforms, AI-integrated systems and other advanced solutions that meet the needs of the modern and evolving battlefield.
The cooperation will be based on the use of knowledge, skills and experience of the WB GROUP and Leonardo in the development of specialized military electronics, reconnaissance and attack systems capable of operating in an integrated combat environment, enabling multi-domain operations. The joint initiatives will build on the consolidated presence of partner entities in Poland, as part of the WB GROUP activities and through Leonardo Poland. “The evolving defence and security landscape requires an innovative defence industry, which is essential to enhance Europe’s defence capabilities and overall security,” said Lorenzo Mariani, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Leonardo.
“The evolution of our capability portfolio is driven by disruptive innovations and the on-the-ground speed of defense and security technology innovations, in line with our Business Plan, and unmanned systems and technologies are an integral part of this effort. We believe that our synergies could create “accessible mass” and new capabilities for our customers to address emerging needs in the integrated multi-domain battlefield with increased situational awareness and operational effectiveness. This collaboration further confirms our commitment to Poland in terms of defence and security capabilities and industrial growth.”
“The agreement signed today will allow GRUPA WB and Leonardo to conduct an analysis on how both entities can combine their complementary capabilities and expertise in the areas of unmanned systems and artificial intelligence. The goal is to develop advanced and effective light tactical reconnaissance platforms and low-cost attack solutions,” said Piotr Wojciechowski, President of GRUPA WB. “The new systems can be used for a wide range of applications in environments with high impact of electronic warfare means, in areas with interrupted or falsified GPS signal, depending on operational needs,” he added.
