The 4 Eurofighter wings of the Italian Armed Forces engaged in the second phase of 2026 of the international exercise organized by the Royal Air Force.
The Cobra Warrior 26-2, one of the most important and complex international air exercises organized by the Royal Air Force (RAF), ended on Friday 2 October, which saw the Italian Air Force engaged in training activities with aircraft and personnel from the four Eurofighter Wings – 4th, 36th, 37th and 51st Wings – together with the air forces of the United Kingdom and other Allied countries including the United States, Canada, Germany and Poland.
The exercise, of fundamental importance to maintain high standards of preparation among allied air forces, offered a highly realistic, multi-domain and multinational training environment, designed to reproduce high-intensity operational scenarios.
Underlining the importance of the mission, Major Valerio C., Commander of the Italian Detachment, said: “We are honored and excited to be at RAF Waddington to train together with our NATO allies and international partners. The Cobra Warrior represents the premier tactical training environment, providing an invaluable opportunity to enhance our interoperability, refine joint tactics and strengthen our collective readiness. Participating in our aircraft and personnel allows us to test our capabilities in complex, contested and high-threat operational scenarios. Integration and sharing of expertise between our nations is critical.”
The event also made it possible to consolidate the integration between 4th and 5th generation aircraft and to perfect the synergy with the land and naval components, confirming the excellent level of preparation and flexibility of the crews. For the Italian Air Force, the Cobra Warrior represents the culmination of the Weapons Instructors Course (WIC), a course coordinated by the ASWC (Air and Space Warfare Centre) and integrated following the reconfiguration of the capacitive output of the IX Fighter Group of the 4th Wing of Grosseto. New for this year, the course saw the involvement not only of pilots, but also of other key professional figures and personnel from different flight lines, a synergistic contribution of skills that constitutes an increasingly important element for the achievement of objectives in the integrated management of modern air operations.
