The Italian contingent of the “Baltic” Task Group continues its training activity within the NATO multinational Battlegroup in Latvia
In recent days, the “Baltic” Task Group has successfully completed its first multinational exercise called “Forge”. The activity involved units from all the nations participating in the Forward Land Forces (FLF) operation in Latvia.
The units took part in planning and manoeuvring sessions on the ground, with the aim of strengthening coordination between Alliance components and improving capabilities to work together against common threats.
The Italian military, in particular the operational component based on the “Garibaldi” Bersaglieri Brigade, took part in numerous activities with the aim of consolidating knowledge of the operational environment, technical-tactical procedures, weapon systems and means supplied.
In this context, logistical support, as well as mobility and counter-mobility, played a fundamental role, providing for the overcoming of obstacles through the use of movable bridges and ensuring assistance to units on the move during operations.
With the “Baltic” Task Group, Italy actively participates in the NATO Forward Land Forces (FLF) initiative, which provides for the presence of 8 multinational Battlegroups deployed on the eastern flank of the Alliance.
Each Battlegroup is led by a Framework Nation (Italy leads the one in Bulgaria) and aims to increase collective security in the Euro-Atlantic region. The operation, under the command of the Chief of Defence Staff, is coordinated by the Joint Summit Operational Command (Co.Vi.).
The soldiers of the Italian contingent of the XVII rotation, led by the “Garibaldi” Bersaglieri Brigade, who took part in the aforementioned Exercise, come from the 1st Bersaglieri Regiment, the “Guide” Cavalry Regiment (19th), the 21st Sapper Engineer Regiment, the 4th Tank Regiment and the 183rd Parachute Regiment “Nembo” with a Joint Terminal Attack Controller team.
