The Ministry of Economy of the Argentine Republic has given the green light to obtain the credit necessary for the purchase of four Leonardo AW109SP aircraft, which will be assigned to the First Aeronaval Helicopter Squadron of the Argentine Navy.
These new helicopters will replace the Eurocopter AS555N Fennec helicopters that have been in service for some time, helping to modernize the fleet and enhance the department’s operational capabilities. The approved measure includes the authorization to benefit from the facilities provided by the Italian Agency for the Financing of Exports (SACE), which financially support the entire operation.
The contractual package includes four Leonardo AW109SP helicopters, accompanied by a complete simulator equipped with all the necessary equipment for training and operational support. In addition, training courses for both maintenance personnel and pilots are included to ensure an efficient and safe transition to the new fleet. A large batch of spare parts and support equipment is an integral part of the agreement, approximately equivalent to the volume of a fifth helicopter, ensuring high operational availability over time.
The entire package is expected to cost 64 million dollars, with a ten-year financing plan, designed to spread the economic burden over the long term and facilitate the management of the Argentine military budget.
