The Italian Air Force and the Royal Air Force have signed an agreement to provide British student pilots and pilot instructors with phase IV training at the International School of Flight Training in Decimomannu, Sardinia.
The agreement was finalized on Saturday during the second day of the AeroSpaziale Power Conference in Rome. The first two British student pilots are expected to arrive at IFTS in July and by 2023 two more will join the school.
This agreement confirms what was stated by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General Luca Goretti, during the presentation of the new IFTS campus in Sardinia on May 11, 2023.
“Through this international structure we have proven to be a leader in flight training,” said Goretti.
The new campus covers a total area of 130,000 square meters (equivalent to 18 football fields) and boasts modern and technologically advanced infrastructure such as the Ground Training System (GBTS).
The International School of Flight Training (IFTS) is an Italian excellence born from the partnership between the Italian Air Force and Leonardo, and is a reference point for the advanced training of military pilots from all over the world who pilot cutting-edge fighters such as the Eurofighter or the F-35. The first courses at Decimomannu started in July 2022 with students from Italy and foreign countries such as Qatar, Japan, Germany, Singapore, Austria, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
