On 30 October, CIRA (Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali) hosted a day of discussion in Capua dedicated to the international RADIA – WindRunner program, the project promoted by an American and European consortium for the development of the largest cargo aircraft in the world by internal volume, designed for the transport of exceptional loads.
The initiative, promoted by the DAC – Aerospace District of Campania -, offered the consortium the opportunity to get to know the regional system of higher education and aerospace technological research up close, through the presentation of the main academic realities and research centers of Campania.
The day opened with the presentation of CIRA’s activities and a visit to the laboratories and the main test infrastructures, followed by the illustration of the RADIA project. During the meeting, representatives of the universities of Campania – Federico II, Vanvitelli, Parthenope and Salerno – intervened together with those of the CNR, INAF, ENEA and the CORISTA Consortium, who illustrated skills, excellence and prospects for collaboration in the key sectors of aerospace research. The WindRunner project envisages a particularly ambitious path, with the aim of arriving at the first flight tests within four years and starting production within six. In this context, the meeting at CIRA represented a strategic opportunity to connect the Campania research and innovation network with a major international program, opening up new prospects for cooperation for universities, research centers and suppliers in the regional supply chain.
