Immediate take-off for the fighters of the 4th Wing on the orders of NATO to defend the national airspace.
Late yesterday afternoon, two Eurofighter fighters of the Italian Air Force, on alert duty for the surveillance of the national airspace, took off shortly before 18:30 from the Grosseto air base following a scramble order, a technical term used to define an immediate take-off ordered by the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) in Torrejón, in Spain.
The intervention was necessary to identify a private civilian aircraft, a P-180 from Germany, for which a verification had been requested due to the loss of radio contact with the authorities in charge of air traffic management.
The two fighters reached the aircraft assigned in the Ancona area, carried out the procedures required for visual identification and then ascertained the correct restoration of radio communications. Afterwards, the two aircraft returned to the base headquarters of the 4th Wing. The Italian Air Force ensures, without interruption, the defense of airspace as part of the national security system ensured by the entire defense sector. An operational readiness device that, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, involves women, men and assets of the Armed Forces in close coordination with NATO.
