The Alpine Sappers of the 32nd Engineer Regiment of the Italian Army and those of the 2nd Régiment Étranger de Génie of the French Foreign Legion conducted an articulated exercise lasting a total of two weeks.
The multinational exercise “Joint Sapper 2026”, planned, organized and conducted by the 32nd Sapper Engineer Regiment of the “Taurinense” Alpine Brigade with the participation of the 2nd Régiment Étranger de Génie of the French Foreign Legion, ended on 19 October.
More than 120 Italian and French soldiers participated in the complex training activity, who trained in a first phase in the Fossano area and in a second, for 72 continuous hours, in the mountain area of Prato Nevoso (CN), covering a total positive difference in height of over 1300m. The purpose of the exercise was to train to conduct offensive, defensive and enabling tactical activities in a mountain environment and in a warfighting context, increasing interoperability between units of Allied countries.
During the exercise, activities were carried out such as the assault and defense of positions at high altitude, the overcoming of vertical obstacles such as rock walls with mountaineering techniques, the clearing of routes from explosive devices, the demolition of enemy targets and the use of drones to carry out aerial reconnaissance. The “Joint Sapper 2026” exercise, part of a consolidated cycle of joint training activities, gave all participating personnel the opportunity to discuss techniques, tactics and procedures, increasing the level of interoperability.
