After achieving Full Operational Capability, the Multinational Battle Group is committed to maintaining the high operational standard achieved.
The tankers of the Ariete, together with the other units of the Italian Army that make up the Battle Group, commanded by Colonel Federico Maddaluno, continue to work to ensure the highest training standards and efficiency of combat platforms.
The Italian contingent, based on the 32nd Tank Regiment, together with colleagues from the other Contingents, trains and cooperates daily to improve the level of interoperability and streamline operational procedures in order to obtain an effective military tool capable of intervening promptly, if necessary. In this context, in recent days the soldiers of the Battle Group have conducted the Strike Back 24 exercise in the same way as the Iron Strike 24 exercise, which aimed to test the level of interoperability and operational readiness already achieved.
In line with the mission assigned to the Battle Group, the “Strike Back 24” exercise was conducted through the execution of offensive tactical activities, simulating classic war scenarios that made it possible to conduct training to opposing parties, i.e. with enemy units actually deployed on the ground, with attrition actions and subsequent neutralization of enemy units. About 300 military personnel were used for the exercise, belonging to the 8 countries that make up the Battle Group and 40 combat vehicles and platforms.
The NATO mission conducted by the national contingent is a measure of a defensive nature, proportionate and fully in line with the international commitment of the Atlantic Alliance which intends to strengthen the principles of deterrence and defense against potential threats and defense of the Euro-Atlantic spaces. The operations conducted by the Italian Armed Forces on the eastern flank of NATO are ordered by the Chief of Defence Staff and are under the coordination and direction of the Joint Summit Operational Command (COVI), led by Army Corps General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo.
