The AeroSpace Power Conference officially kicked off yesterday at the “La Nuvola di Fuksas” conference center in Rome, the international convention promoted by the Italian Air Force to take stock of the state of the art and future developments of the entire Aerospace sector on the occasion of the centenary of its establishment.
A rich program of interventions, which will continue until Saturday 13 May, by the leading experts in the field on the international scene, coming both from the military world, with representatives of the most important air forces in the world, and from the civil one, with international experts from governmental organizations, academic and industrial realities.
Chaired by the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, and with the presence of the Chief of Defense Staff, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, the conference was officially opened this morning by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Team General Luca Goretti.
“We must reconfigure the dimension of space and time from the point of view of technology and weapon systems,” said General Goretti. “Space and time, metaphorically and physically, combine in speed, which in turn implies reactivity, a key element of air and space forces. One hundred years after the establishment of the Air Force, Aerospace Power is more relevant and disruptive than ever”, concluded the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, “and increasing the skills of air power is the best way to continue to adapt and remain an essential asset even in the next 100 years”.
And precisely on the need to act effectively in the new domains, the Chief of Defense Staff, Admiral Cavo Dragone, expressed himself, who highlighted how “the recent crises have shown once again that the ability to operate in the space domain is an essential condition for effectively carrying out military activities. It is evident to all, in particular, how the space domain, together with the cybernetic domain, were the first to be exploited in favor of the classical domains – land, sea and air – amplifying their scope or reducing their adversary effectiveness”.
“In the aerospace sector we have a great past on which we Italians know how to build the future. To do this we need technology but above all the ability to analyze and forecast”, explained the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto in his speech. “Today we talk not only about Aeronautics and Space but about security in general and who has the task of guaranteeing it: the Armed Forces. If there is no security, there can be no democracy, freedom and peace.”
The international conference, whose work can also be followed in streaming on the social platforms of the Italian Air Force (YouTube and Linkedin), is also associated with an aerospace exhibition, designed to make the Air Force and the main companies operating in the aerospace sector better known to the general public.
The exhibition event will be open free of charge to the public, without any registration, on Saturday 13 May, from 15:00 to 18:00, and Sunday 14 May, from 10:00 to 18:00. There will be several attractions dedicated to visitors: from immersive experiences lived through recreational activities and interactions with social media, to film screenings dedicated to the Centenary of the Armed Forces; from the info point of the Italian Air Force where, among other things, you can pick up exclusive gadgets of the Centenary, to a philatelic counter of Poste Italiane for the postmark of postcards and stamps dedicated to the special anniversary.
Last but not least, particular attention will be paid to the initiative “A gift from heaven for AIRC”, a charity collection promoted by the Italian Air Force in favor of oncological research and whose funds will be allocated to the purchase of latest generation machinery for IFOM, Institute Foundation of Molecular Oncology.
