Cantiere Navale Vittoria returns to build for the Republic of Croatia. The Venetian company with 95 years of history and leader in the design and construction of military, paramilitary, work, commercial and transport boats up to 100 meters in length, has signed with the Ministarstvo mora, prometa i infrastrukture of Croatia the contract for the construction of a SAR type naval unit (Search and Rescue) unsinkable and self-righting worth 2 million and 98 thousand euros.
The assignment came following the participation of the Vittoria Shipyard in the international tender called by the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure in 2019 and ended in 2021 with the overcoming of the pandemic emergency. The unit, destined to the Port Authority of Pula for the performance of rescue and recovery activities at sea, will be delivered by 2023.
“A special thanks goes to the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure for the renewed trust – declares the president of the Vittoria Shipyard, Paolo Duò – and the fruitful collaboration relationship built over the years. Our shipyard was awarded this contract thanks to the know-how gained with the supply of various units for search and rescue at sea for EU countries. The new unit, as required by the tender, will retain some of the technical characteristics, considered highly satisfactory, of the units of the same type delivered to Croatia in 2017 to the Port Authority of Zadar (in the photo – Ed.), but will be able to count on a further renewed technological contribution and responding to the most current needs of the men and women of the Croatian Coast Guard.”
The boat, an unsinkable and self-righting monohull vessel, must have the following technical and design characteristics: length of 16 meters, width of 4.65 meters, motorization ensured by two azimuth engines Volvo IPS DRIVE 1050, a speed of over 35 knots at full load, a dynamic positioning system with electronic anchor and sophisticated technological systems for search and rescue such as the FLIR M400XR multi-sensor marine thermal camera, and finally, a dashboard configured to accommodate a rescue stretcher. As for the accommodations, the unit can accommodate a crew of 3 people and up to 9 people sitting inside, with the possibility of sheltering shipwrecked people also on the main deck.
Over the years, the Victoria Shipyard has built several unsinkable units and straightening cars for Croatia, some of which have also been delivered to the Police Corps, for which two Coastal Patrol Boats worth 6 million and 500 thousand euros are further under construction.
