After a profitable and constant activity of research and development, Elettronica has made a further technological leap in the features of its systems relating to the Self-Protection that it is currently presenting on the market.
Within the avionics domain, the main innovations concern self-protection capabilities for large-body aircraft and special missions, and combat helicopters, escort and C-SAR type missions. The Self-Protection suite covers every aspect of the electromagnetic spectrum, from Radio Frequency to Electro Optical.
It is made up of the fully digital RWR ELT \ 162 alarm system (chosen by the Italian Army to protect the new AW249 NEES helicopter from radiofrequency threats) while for active RF protection there is the IEWS, an operational on-board jammer, aboard Italian Air Force’s AW101 C-SAR helicopter, and the SPARK, a new expendable jammer that provides the platform with effective protection against RF-guided missile threats.
SPARK, once identified the RF frequency of the threat, is ejected at a great distance from the platform, directing the threats towards itself as a credible target, and thus acting as a “bait” for the RF signal of the enemy radar.
The novelty of the family of electro-optical countermeasures is the new generation DIRCM (Direct InfraRed Counter Measures) ELT \ 577 QUIRIS, a totally European technology system that uses the Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) technology to generate high power of protection with increased efficiency in small spaces, integrable with any Missile Warning System of opportunity.
This system was also chosen by the Italian Army for the protection of the new AW249 NEES helicopters against infrared threats. This is the result of continuous technological research which confirms the connotation of Elettronica as a “Jamming House” recognized worldwide.
