The exercise “SABRE 2023”, organized and conducted by the 4th Alpine Parachute Regiment Ranger, has ended.
The event, aimed at conducting operations in mountain, snowy and low temperature environments, saw the participation of rotary-wing assets of the 3rd Special Operations Helicopter Regiment “Aldebaran” (REOS), the 5th “Rigel” Helicopter Regiment and detachments of the US Special Forces. Units from the 7th Alpini Regiment “Belluno”, the 11th Bersaglieri Regiment, the 7th Transmission Regiment and the 5th Land Artillery Regiment were also integrated into the complex exercise, as well as specialized assets of the Tactical Information Brigade (BIT), in particular from the 41st IMINT Regiment “Cordenons” and the 33rd EW Regiment “Electronic Warfare”. The 3rd Wing of the Italian Air Force also took an active part in the training activity.
The 4th Alpine Parachute Regiment (“Ranger”) is the Special Forces department of the Army composed of specifically selected and trained personnel, particularly trained and equipped to conduct the entire spectrum of typical “Special Operations” tasks. The 4th regiment, unique in its kind for having combined the typical capabilities of the mountain specialty (alpine) and air troops (paratroopers), is the only unit of Special Forces of the Army specifically designated and qualified to conduct operations in mountain and arctic environments.
The operational component of the regiment consists of Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Graduates and Volunteers in permanent service or in fixed station, trained and selected through a training process lasting about two years, which culminates in the attribution of the qualification of “Ranger”.
The regiment operates under the Army Special Forces Command (COMFOSE) and is stationed in VERONA.
