Today, October 22nd, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Muggiano (La Spezia), in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral Enrico Credendino, the Director General of the Military Ships Division of Fincantieri, Dario Deste, and the Director of the Joint Organization for Cooperation in the field of Armaments (OCCAR), Admiral Chief Inspector Matteo Bisceglia, the ceremony of delivery to the Italian Navy of the ship Francesco Morosini was held.
This is the second Unit of the P.P.A (Pattugliatori Polivalenti d’Altura) type, an instrument designed to operate in the wider contexts of the maritime dimension and capable of carrying out multiple tasks, both of a purely military nature and of support to potential disasters, thanks to the intrinsic dual capabilities that the logistical arrangements on board allow. Admiral Credendino underlined that “this type of ship is born from a winning and very innovative idea, which allows great flexibility of use and high autonomy, necessary to effectively patrol the maritime communication lines”
Designed and built entirely in Italy, in the broader framework of the Navy fleet renewal program, the Morosini ship is a tangible testimony of the technological evolution expressed by the excellence of the national shipbuilding industry and the leading companies in the Defense sector such as Fincantieri and Leonardo. At the end of the sea trials and the basic crew training phase, ensured by the New Naval Construction Preparation Center (MARINALLES), the Unit now passes to the First Naval Division (COMDINAV UNO), based in La Spezia, to face more advanced and operational training activities.
