The cadets of the U. S Air Force (U.S. Air Force) have begun flight training at the International School of Flight (IFTS)
On 8 September, for the first time, ten student pilots of the United States Air Force began the “Multiphase Jet Training” course at the Decimomannu air base (CA), which will last about nine months and will give pilots the opportunity to obtain the military pilot license on the T-346A aircraft, produced by Leonardo.
The course, the result of the agreement signed on August 21 between the Italian Air Force and the United States Air Force, is part of the training activities of the International Flight Training School (IFTS) and testifies to the solidity of the cooperation between Italy and the United States.
The International Flight Training School was born from the strategic collaboration between the Italian Air Force and Leonardo for the creation of an advanced flight training centre at the Decimomannu air base. The integrated training system, based on the Leonardo M-346 aircraft (called T-346A by the Italian Air Force), allows real and simulated activities to be conducted jointly, preparing future pilots for the most complex operational scenarios and maximizing the quality and effectiveness of the training return.
The flag of the United States joins those of the other nations that already have student pilots and/or instructors at the IFTS: Saudi Arabia, Austria, Canada, Japan, Greece, Kuwait, Holland, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and Hungary. The large number of countries involved confirms the international interest in the Italian training system, which confirms itself as a unique reality on the world scene.
The activity is part of the International Flight Training School (IFTS), a virtuous example of national institutional and industrial synergy capable of meeting the growing demand for advanced training of Italian military pilots and partner countries. The International Flight Training School was born from the strategic collaboration between the Italian Air Force and Leonardo for the creation of an advanced flight training centre intended to be an international reference point in the training of military pilots starting from Phase IV (Advanced/Lead-In to Fighter Training).
With this in mind, a modern training centre has been built at the Decimomannu air base, based on the use of the M-346 advanced trainer produced by Leonardo (called T-346A by the Italian Air Force). The aircraft and its integrated training system allow real and simulated activities to be conducted jointly, preparing future pilots for the most complex operational scenarios and maximizing the quality and effectiveness of the training return. Thanks to its characteristics, training course and cutting-edge technologies, the International Flight Training School of Decimomannu is a point of reference for the training of pilots destined for the latest generation aircraft, such as the Eurofighter Typhoon (F-2000) or the F-35.
