The Italian Ministry of Defence expresses satisfaction with the decision taken by the Danish government to equip itself with the SAMP/T NG medium-range air defence system, jointly built by Italy and France.
The acquisition of this next-generation capability will allow Copenhagen to ensure more effective protection of its airspace and population in the face of increasingly sophisticated and ever-changing threats.
The adoption of a modern system, fully interoperable with those in use by the allies of the Atlantic Alliance, represents a significant step for common European security and for the strengthening of NATO’s collective defense.
For Italy, the Danish choice confirms the solidity of the industrial and technological cooperation with France, developed through the Eurosam consortium, and enhances the skills of our national defence industry.
The SAMP/T system, already operational in the Italian Army, the Italian and French Air Forces, guarantees a proven medium-range surface-to-air defense capability against aircraft and theater ballistic missiles (TBMs).
The SAMP/T NG modernization program, launched in 2021, was designed to respond to a scenario characterized by increasingly rapid, elusive and complex threats. The new configuration includes a deeply renewed engagement system and the integration of a latest generation radar, designed to fully exploit the potential of the future ASTER 30 B1 NT Extended Capability missile. The entry into service of the SAMP/T NG is scheduled for 2026.
