The training included operational scenarios of increasing difficulty and complexity to increase the level of readiness of military pilots for “Air-to-Air” combat.
The Air Force and the German Luftwaffe have conducted intensive joint training in recent days at the Neuburg Air Base in Germany. The main objective was to increase the level of readiness of military pilots for air-to-air combat and to refine the most complex operational tactics.
The activity, technically called “Dissimilar Air Combat Training – DACT”, took part Eurofighter Typhoon fighter aircraft of the 36th Fighter Wing of Gioia del Colle (BA) and assets of the German Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 74. A total of eight aircraft were involved in simulating operational scenarios of increasing difficulty and complexity.
During the simulated air-to-air combat, pilots from both air forces had the opportunity to refine the use of specific operational tactics and to maneuver the assets provided in an extremely dynamic operational context.
In particular, offensive (OCA – Offensive Counter Air) and defensive (DCA – Defensive Counter Air) air attacks were simulated. The entire activity was aimed at increasing the levels of operational readiness, perfecting combat capability and strengthening cooperation and integration between the air assets of the forces of the Atlantic Alliance.
The DACT represented a fundamental opportunity for the achievement of an advanced level of training for the personnel involved, through a training program aimed at constantly expanding the projection capabilities of the air forces employed internationally. This activity is also crucial for testing and training the command and control structure, as well as for exercising the coordination of national air defense systems.
The 36th Fighter Wing of Gioia del Colle (BA) is under the command of the Combat Forces Command (CFC) of Milan, whose assigned mission is to acquire and maintain the operational readiness of all air defense and attack and reconnaissance bodies, providing for the operational efficiency of weapon systems, vehicles and materials, as well as the training of personnel and the constant updating and optimization of operating procedures, in compliance with the guidelines of the SS. AA.. The CFC is under the Air Squad Command – 1st Air Region which exercises the responsibilities in the field of training, preparation and operational preparation of its Departments, so that they acquire and maintain the expected levels of operational readiness. The 36th Fighter Wing is one of the 5 Air Force Wings that ensure the National Air Defense and the NATO Quick Reaction Alert service.
