The Armed Forces of Malta have signed a contract to procure an additional helicopter in order to further enhance the Force’s operational capability across several key areas. This contract, signed with Leonardo Helicopters , will deliver an additional AW139 helicopter, augmenting the current fleet of three AW139 platforms.
This acquisition forms part of the ongoing standardisation of the helicopter fleet operated by the AFM’s Air Wing. The AW139 helicopters play a vital role in border control, surveillance, maritime law enforcement , and search and rescue operations.
The addition of a fourth aircraft will enable the Air Wing to better sustain these diverse roles and maintain the continuous operational momentum required to ensure security and safety in the Central Mediterranean. Leonardo Helicopters, which has supported the Armed Forces of Malta for over ten years, has reaffirmed its full commitment to assisting the continued standardisation and development of the Force.
