The joint exercise “Caprera”, conducted by Italian and Bulgarian units under the Multinational Battle Group Bulgaria, ended in recent days.
The activity, which involved Italian infantry, artillery and engineering units and Bulgarian mechanized infantry units, had as its training objective to implement an offensive action against multiple enemy positions.
The exercise, divided into several phases, saw the use of sniper teams, the anti-tank and scout platoon, which carried out activities of protection of the deployment and acquisition of information on the threat.

Medium and heavy infantry companies then advanced on the ground, supported by artillery fire, while the engineering component allowed, during the movement of infantry units, the opening of a gap within a supposed minefield.
In the continuation of the activity, the heavy mortar platoon and three platoons of mechanized infantry also intervened, two with the aim of disorganizing the defenses and one with the task of reclaiming the final area of intervention.
Finally, simulating the discovery and explosion of a container of potentially risky material, adjacent to the position of the mechanized infantry platoons, the CBRN component (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) was also exercised with the preparation of a decontamination point.
At all stages of the maneuver, the anti-aircraft artillery company ensured air defense to all units exercised. About 400 soldiers (Italian and Bulgarian) and 29 tactical vehicles were used to carry out the exercise, including Freccia, in “mortar carrier” and “SPIKE” versions, Lince 2, VM90, PZH-2000, Centauro 1 and MT-LB Bulgarian armored vehicles.
