NATO joint international exercise Cold Response 22 (CR22) has taken place in Norway from 14 March to April 1st.
Over 35,000 troops from 28 Allied countries and partners were involved: Norway, US, Italy, Canada, Denmark, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece, Turkey, Germany, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Finland and Sweden.
CR22 – long-planned and announced over eigth months ago – is a defensive exercise involving activities against opposing forces. The main objective is to strengthen the ability of NATO Allies and partners to operate in extreme climate conditions, enhancing participating units’ readiness.
It is the largest exercise ever held in Norway since the 80s. Italy participated sending units from the Army and Navy.
The Italian Army sent a tactical group of 210 troops, members of the Brigata Alpina “Taurinense”, and the Italian Navy deployed aircraft carrier Garibaldi as Commander Amphibious Task Force flagship, as well as a company consisting of 90 soldiers from the San Marco Marine Brigade.
