Advancing operational SAR capabilities through real-time onboard sensor processing and automated target recognition in complex environments.
The first integration tests have been successfully completed, combining FlySight’s OPENSIGHT Mission Console and Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) technologies with neural models trained and developed by Norwegian authorities.
The system architecture enables real-time, onboard processing of electro-optical sensor data alongside geospatial information, enhancing situational awareness and supporting faster, more informed decision-making during time-critical missions. This approach aims to significantly increase the probability of locating missing persons in challenging environments.
Designed for deployment in high-complexity scenarios—including mountainous terrain and maritime domains—the solution enhances operator capabilities by improving detection reliability and reducing false positives. As a result, it enables more efficient allocation of search and rescue (SAR) assets and increases the likelihood of successful target identification under demanding operational conditions.
This pilot initiative represents a critical step forward in transitioning advanced technologies from the laboratory into operational environments. By augmenting the capabilities of SAR operators—particularly in complex scenarios such as mountainous terrain and maritime missions—the system is designed to deliver faster, more reliable, and actionable insights in situations where every second matters. Last week, the project saw FlySight team deployed at Sola Naval Air Station for initial onboard helicopter integration trials. From now through August, the Mission Console and ATR systems will be continuously refined to ensure full alignment with operational requirements collected during field activities.
In parallel, the program supports the development of a structured SAR data framework for Norway, aimed at enabling scalable deployment across a broader fleet and enhancing long-term mission effectiveness through data-driven capabilities.
