With regard to the recently published press articles concerning the Military Propellant Plant of Fontana Liri, the Defense Industries Agency wishes to emphasize that with the installation of the new Director General Colonel Engineer Michele Cristino, in line with the indications of the current Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, after years of stoppage of production activities starting from January 2024, a solid industrial plan has been launched aimed at the redevelopment and relaunch of the plant which provides for the gradual reactivation of all production lines in the short to medium term.
It should also be noted that the production of spherical powders and nitrocellulose had stopped since 2017, while that of nitroglycerin had stopped in 2000. The current relaunch takes the form of significant investments already approved by the Defence Ministry, which sanction the tangible commitment of our Government to restore the centrality of the Fontana Liri plant in strategic national production at the service of the country which, in this way, will once again represent a fundamental industrial reference point capable of producing important economic and employment returns. The start of production and the restart of activities, beyond the declarations of principle, could not be separated from a series of interventions decided and launched only in 2024, which provide for the bringing of the production plants up to standard, important investments in the reclamation and environmental remediation of the plant and the improvement of general services and the redevelopment of the buildings concerned.
