According to Humberto Marchioni Spinetti, President of IDV Latin America, in an exclusive interview with T&D, the first 4×4 LMV-BR2 Guaicurus multi-purpose armored vehicle (VBMT), from the contract for 420 units signed in 2024 , will be delivered to the Brazilian Army (EB) this semester.
“The production line is practically complete, and in the first quarter of next year, the first vehicle will begin production, with delivery scheduled for June, with a commitment to deliver 15 vehicles in 2026, and an average of 55 in subsequent years until 2034. In addition to the Army, Brazilian Security Forces are negotiating their acquisition, and it is possible that the first contract will be announced in the next semester,” revealed Spinetti.
He concluded: “The LMV will utilize a large part of the Guarani’s logistics chain, but we are developing a local supplier chain for the specific components of the LMV, so much so that several parts of the cabin that we will manufacture here will be exported to Europe. We will be the center of expertise for these components.”
Currently, IDV is producing the LMV-2, a new, heavier vehicle specifically designed to meet NATO requirements. The LMV-BR2, on the other hand, is a direct evolution of the LMV, a worldwide sales success, incorporating the main technological innovations of version 2 while maintaining its weight. It will be produced at the Sete Lagoas (MG) plant.
The Brazilian Army currently has 48 VBMT 4X4 Guaicurus armored vehicles, 32 of which were acquired new in 2019 and 16 of the Lince K2 version, acquired used in 2018 for the Federal Intervention in Rio de Janeiro .
