The vessel, currently under construction for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN), was delivered by DAPA (Defense Acquisition Program Administration) to the Korean Navy.
The primary function of an auxiliary submarine rescue ship is to rescue crew members from distressed submarines. The ROKS Ganghwado, measuring 120 meters in length and 19 meters in width with a displacement of 5,600 tons, is significantly larger than its predecessor, ROKS Cheonghaejin, which has a displacement of 3,200 tons. The new rescue ship can accommodate approximately 130 crew members.
DRASS played a key role in this contract, awarded by the Korean Navy in 2018, which included the design, manufacture and installation of this state-of-the-art deep diving system and was implemented in cooperation with local partner Dongil Shipyard.
