Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding – part of our US subsidiary Fincantieri Marine Group – welcomed a national treasure to the Sturgeon Bay shipyard: the USS Silversides, a decorated WWII submarine, arrived for a three-month preservation project.
During the dry dock period, specialists at FBS will perform a comprehensive restoration effort, including hull cleaning, structural inspections, and the application of advanced protective coatings to ensure long-term stability. The vessel has not been in dry dock for preservation for more than 50 years, according to the USS Silversides Museum.
USS Silversides is one of the most decorated units of World War II, and we are proud to support the preservation of this historic submarine, drawing on our craftsmanship, expertise, and long-standing shipbuilding experience to safeguard history as we look to the future with ever-greater confidence.
