The men and women of the Taurinense Alpine Brigade, deployed on the south-eastern flank of the Atlantic Alliance for over three months now as part of the “Enhanced Vigilance Activity” (eVA) Operation, conducted an important combat exercise with opposing parties planned entirely by the Battlegroup Command and conducted in an environment characterized by CBRN risk (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) as well as the presence of enemy air threat.
The NATO eVA Battlegroup, strong of over 1000 soldiers, has employed on the occasion of the exercise “Noble Imperat”, the Italian component based on the Taurinense Alpine Brigade (3rd Alpine Regiment, Nizza Cavalleria, 1st Artiterrestre, 32nd Guastatori), the American component part of the 101 ^ Airborne Division, the Croatian assets of Military Police and IEDD (Improvised Explosive Device Disposal) and the Hungarian air defence and CBRN components.
The exercise, lasting 7 days of which 3 of continuous external activity, saw the units of the Battlegroup brake and block, through the combined use of air fire, artillery, heavy mortars and anti-tank missiles, as well as active and passive obstacles made by the units of the engineers (minefields anti-tank, ditches, embankments) an enemy attacking unit, to carry out later, through the armored cavalry component and the infantry units, a counterattack against the opposing forces.
Present in the area of operations fixed wing aircraft such as American F-18 and rotary-wing aircraft such as Hungarian Mi-24 attack helicopters, which used their ordinary ammunition on the targets indicated by the Italian, Hungarian and American JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) teams deployed on the ground.
The support of the CBRN air defense and defense units was also decisive, which guaranteed, with a view to the complete interoperability of the multinational assets of the Battlegroup, respectively protection from attacks from the third dimension by drones and enemy aircraft as well as from attacks through the use of chemical agents.
With the end of the “Noble Imperat” exercise, however, the operational and training activities of the NATO eVA Battlegroup deployed in Hungary do not end, an integral part, together with the other 7 multinational Battlegroups screened in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria, of the measures to strengthen the posture of the Atlantic Alliance on the eastern flank, with a deterrence and defense mission.
