The air forces of the international coalition are training to refine strategies against the Daesh threat.
On Monday, December 30, an important joint exercise between the Italian Air Force and the United States Air Force took place in the skies of Kuwait, designed to test and refine the planning and execution capabilities of a Close Air Support (CAS) activity. The event saw the involvement of Italian and US assets, to underline the effectiveness of the international anti-ISIS coalition, operating as part of the multinational mission “Prima Parthica/Ineherent Resolve”.
The exercise took place in two distinct phases: in the first the Italian assets were used to escort a convoy headed towards a predetermined objective; the high technology used by the Italian assets in flight has made it possible to increase the understanding of the current situation by the personnel employed on the ground, allowing them to identify the possible presence of asymmetrical threats, thus guaranteeing freedom of movement (Freedom of Movement – FOM).
In the second phase, however, the Italian air forces provided direct support to the ground troops engaged in the capture of a local High Valuable Individual (HVI). In this phase, the role of the Italian assets proved to be crucial for the success of the mission, demonstrating the ability to provide rapid and precise responses to any threats.
At the end of the exercise, Colonel Matteo Zuliani, Commander of the Italian National Contingent Command Air – Task Force Air Kuwait, expressed his appreciation towards all the personnel employed, Italian and American, praising their work. He then wanted to underline the importance of this event, which represented a fundamental test bench for the operational capabilities and the integration of Italian assets with the allied forces. Information sharing between air assets and ground forces has once again proved essential to effectively prevent terrorist actions against the Coalition.
The Italian National Contingent Command Air/Task Force Air Kuwait was established on 17 October 2014 and placed under the National Operational Command of the Joint Forces. It participates in the Prima Parthica/Inherent Resolve operation as part of the International Anti-ISIS Coalition, guaranteeing unity of command for the synergistic and coordinated use of the assets supplied, deployed in Kuwait and Iraq.
