The medical evacuation of six wounded following the explosion of a fuel depot near the Stepanakert-Askeran road, in Nagorno-Karabakh, ended this morning with the landing at the military airport of Pisa.
The Italian Defense, through the Joint Top Operational Command (COVI), the Civil Protection Department and the Aerospace Operations Command, have organized a Medical Evacuation mission (MEDEVAC) and allow the transfer of patients to Italy in safe conditions.
The Italian Air Force has provided a flight crew and a C-130J aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, with military medical personnel on board as well as two medical teams from the “Celio” Military Hospital and one from the Main Infirmary of the Pisa Air Force.
The C-130J of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, which left on Saturday morning, after a stopover at the airport of Pratica di Mare, headed towards the airport of Zyartnots in Yerevan in Armenia, where it landed, about five hours later.
The wounded, embarked with stretchers suitable for transport, were transported to Pisa airport, from where they were immediately transferred to hospital facilities to receive medical treatment and assistance. These are some of the most seriously ill people who, last September 29, were hit by the explosion of a fuel depot while they were in line to refuel cars.
