In particular, the rates of Piemonte Cavalleria are specialized in the movement in winter trim along the valleys and the mountain arc that runs along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL), by virtue of their specificity as an exploratory department of the Alpine Brigade “JULIA”, which sees them equipped and trained to operate in a winter environment of high altitude, characterized by limited spaces, alternating with verticality and various elevation profiles.
The patrolling of the ABL requires in fact the peculiar skills and mountaineering skills of the staff of Piemonte Cavalleria, which operates by developing the patrol through reconnaissance, patrols and activation of observation points.
The scouting unit employs, in fact, ski-mountaineering and Mountain War Fare instructors with mission-oriented equipment: mountaineering skis, thessalyc skins, snowshoes and over-dressed for arctic scenarios and moves with the BV 206 self-propelled tactical vehicle, along the passable frozen stretches. Patrolling activities are essential operations to ensure a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities living in Kosovo, as required by UN Resolution 1244 of 1999.
