Focus on space innovartion on 9 May at the LARIOSPACE eventage
The Italian supply chain for the production and launch into orbit of picosat and cubesats is growing. These small, high-tech satellites, weighing from a few tens of grams up to a few kilos, are arousing great interest all over the world. In fact, they are able to carry out complex scientific and application missions, both individually and in constellations formed by tens or hundreds of specimens. Italy is positioning itself among the first international players in this sector: a recent call by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) for future missions with these small satellites saw the presentation of 49 proposals with a high innovation content.
The development of technology and business with these minisatellites will be among the main themes of “LarioSpace”, the new event on technology and innovation in the field of space activities in Italy, which will take place on Tuesday 9 May at the Lariofiere exhibition center in Erba (Como). ” This event will allow participants to discover the challenges of the New Space Economy and learn about its main technological innovations and prospects for the future”, explains Jonathan Polotto, CEO of Involve Space, a space startup that organizes the event together with Lariofiere. “It will also be an opportunity to meet key figures of the Italian space ecosystem, including entrepreneurs, startuppers, science communicators and influencers related to this sector”.
Two sessions of “LarioSpace” will be dedicated to the new minisatellite sector and will see the interventions of important companies. Among these, the presence of the Turin-based Argotec is expected, which developed the “Argomoon” and “LICIACube” cubesats, the first launched as part of NASA’s “Artemis” lunar mission, while the second to contribute to NASA’s “DART ” mission, which experimented with the kinetic impact technique against an asteroid for planetary defense purposes.
Another company present will be the Brescian Apogeo Space, which is working on the “PiCo-IoT” project related to the launch of a constellation of a hundred picosatellites capable of providing Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity to everyone and everywhere. These picosat will be launched into space thanks to D-Orbit, a Como-based company leader in logistics and orbital transport, also present at “LarioSpace”: D-Orbit will present the missions of the “Ion Satellite Carrier” space transfer vehicle, which so far have allowed the positioning in orbit of over 100 small satellites.
The “LarioSpace” program includes a series of talks given by qualified speakers, including managers of public bodies, large companies, SMEs and start-ups. Among the topics that will be addressed, there will be space telecommunications, Earth observation, atmospheric research, artificial intelligence for aerospace, exploration of the Moon and Mars, education and training, environment and sustainability. Speakers from the European Space Agency (ESA), the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the Amaldi Foundation, as well as specialized companies such as Telespazio, Argotec, D-Orbit, Apogeo Space and Aiko have already confirmed their presence.
The conference will be moderated by Vittorio Baraldi, aerospace engineer and well-known scientific popularizer on the web (with the nickname Astro Viktor). There will also be an area dedicated to stands and networking to facilitate meetings between entrepreneurs, professionals and stakeholders. “LarioSpace” is organized by the Como startup Involve Space and Lariofiere, a foundation owned by the Como-Lecco Chamber of Commerce. The event received the patronage of ASI and the National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC).
