The Eagles Eyes exercise, an intense week dedicated to shooting training for the Army Alpini engaged in Operation “Enhanced Vigilance Activity” in Hungary, ended today.
All the components of the Italian contingent were present, from rifle platoons to artillery, cavalry and engineering personnel, who perfected their shooting skills with individual and department armament during five consecutive days of firefighting.
An intense training of the artillery section and the heavy mortar platoon was carried out, which conducted long-distance shots with 120 mm mortars and 155 mm howitzers, implementing numerous deployment changes to simulate adherence to the friendly maneuver and avoid the so-called counter-battery fire.

During the exercise, the planning skills, management of the Command and Control function and the coordination activities of the units delivering indirect fire, carried out by the Fire Support Elements (FSE) of the 3rd Land Artillery Regiment (mountain) and of the SAOV (Visual Objective Acquisition Supervision) nuclei of the 8th Alpine Regiment and the 3rd Artillery Regiment, were also tested.
Among the units on the ground there is also a nucleus of sharpshooters of the 8th Alpini, highly trained and qualified personnel in shooting, occult movement and goal acquisition. The joint training and use of all the specialized assets available to the NATO Battlegroup in Hungary represents a fundamental element in the training progression, which aims to achieve interoperability between all the components of the four NATO countries (Italy, Hungary, Croatia and the United States) present in the area of operations and which allows to implement an effective deterrence strategy.
