The TALON® (Target Acquisition Land Observation and Navigation) system has been selected as Tactical Mission System (TMS) for the VBA Amphibious Armoured Vehicle of the Italian Navy; the program provides for the construction, by IDV, of 36 vehicles (including 2 prototypes) for the San Marco Marine Brigade in order to replace the historic AAV 7P.
TALON, based on a net-centric architecture that allows it to use all the most sophisticated weapon systems, sensors and data-link radios, is among the most modern BMS (Battlefield Management System) command and control systems, capable of sharing complete tactical scenarios at coalition level, thus representing the ideal solution for the management of land infiltration and exfiltration operations, target acquisition, targeting (DaCAS – DaARTY – DaNFS), escort, peacekeeping and much more.
A TALON® demonstration system, to date is on display at stand C-13 in A.ST. I.M., inside the Arsenal of La Spezia, as part of the eighth edition of SeaFuture – an international fair that sees the presence of leading companies in the sector and 71 delegations of the main navies in the world.
TALON, together with SEAGUARDIAN®, belongs to the family of fourth generation BMS and CMS systems that A.ST.I.M. puts at the service of the Sea Projection Forces to protect the national interest and maritime safety.
These are modular systems expressly developed for use on land or amphibious vessels (TALON®) and for force projection operations from the sea and on naval vessels (SeaGuardian®); They are characterized by a high degree of modularity, scalability, interoperability representing a new technological generation of mission systems. They are both based on the “one fit all” paradigm, the same concept that the Italian Navy has taken up for the construction of its new naval units. A.ST. I.M., thanks to this philosophy, is present with its systems on all the organic means of the new LHD – Nave Trieste – (i.e. LC 23, Combat Boat).
