Important training moment for the Engineer Command and other Units of the Italian Army.
The “ARGO 2024” exercise, conducted on the Tiber, after 21 years since the last time, by all the departments of the Engineer Brigade with the help of some units of the Armed Force, ended in recent days in the Mezzocammino (RM) area.
The exercise aimed to test the level of interoperability of the engineering departments with other specialized assets of the Army.
In the first phase of the exercise, it was possible to test the ability of the Railway Engineer Regiment to conduct all the different types of railway activities in the management of a railway station: the maneuvering of railway wagons, the management of circulation, the enhancement of the loading/unloading capacity of the node through the construction of metal loader planes for the loading of military vehicles on a railway convoy and strategic transport on the route Piacenza – Pomezia Santa Palomba railway line.

The skills of the 2nd Pontieri Engineer Regiment were also trained in the launch of a Motorized Floating Bridge (PGM) to allow the units of the 8th Montebello Lancers Regiment to cross the Tiber river, while the Pioneers of the 6th Regiment and the sappers of the 21st Regiment trained in the construction and forcing of active obstacles with the experimentation of an explosive rope.
At the new training area of the Ettore Rosso Barracks, headquarters of the Engineer Command, the base camp was set up, where the main Force Protection systems and a bunkered command post connected to the same exercise were also deployed. The Argo exercise is federated with the other exercise being carried out in the “La Carona” training area in the Municipality of Fornovo di Taro (PR), called “Mouse Trap 2024”, also coordinated and organized by the Engineer Command.
