The training for precision shooting in the mountains ended in Pian dell’Alpe, in the upper Val Susa, with the participation of over 40 sharpshooters belonging to various Army Brigades, together with personnel from the State Police, the Guardia di Finanza and allied armies.
The exercise, called ‘Steady Hand 2022’ and led at over 2000 meters above sea level by the 3rd Alpine regiment of the Taurinense Brigade, led the specialists to cooperate by exchanging technical and tactical knowledge related to day and night precision shooting up to 1000 m away.
The program also included operational shooting exercises with pistol and assault rifle supplied to the various departments, in order to train the chosen shooter nuclei also in the nearby defense. In addition, under the guidance of personnel of the 3rd Alpini qualified for mountain combat, lessons and mountain warfare activities were conducted day and night, with the use of viewers and laser pointers on ballistic targets, in order to raise the mobility of sharpshooters in mountain environments to harsh climates.
The activity has been enriched by the use of the structures of the “Skill House”, the prefabricated structure that reproduces the buildings on several floors, located within the Taurinense training area in Baudenasca, in the Pinerolo area. Inside the structures, the selected shooter units, as part of operations in urban contexts, simulated infiltration, fire preparation, near defense and exfiltration activities.
The teams of sharpshooters represent a highly specialized capacity of modern armies: thanks to increasingly realistic training, effectiveness in the field is always kept high.
In Pian dell’Alpe there were the sharpshooters belonging to the 3rd Alpine regiment of Pinerolo, the 2nd of Cuneo and the 7th of Belluno, as regards the Alpine Troops. Together with them the colleagues of the 152nd Infantry of the Sassari Brigade, the 183rd Parachute Regiment of the Folgore and the “Serenissima” Lagoon Regiment of the Pozzuolo del Friuli Brigade. Also noteworthy is the participation of teams of the 173 ^ US Parachute Brigade and French Chasseurs Alpins of the 27 ^ Mountain Brigade, as well as specialists from the Anti-terrorism Unit of the Turin State Police and the Guardia di Finanza of Livorno. The exercise was conducted in accordance with international laws and standards.
