The second edition of the National Space Day is full of successes. To celebrate this event held in memory of the launch of the first Italian satellite San Marco, the Italian Space Agency has opened the doors of its headquarters in Rome, with the aim of telling the new generations about space in all its forms.
Since the early hours of the morning, as many as 200 middle and high school students crowded the Agency’s headquarters taking part in recreational and educational activities such as the astronaut laboratory, the Earth Observation laboratory, the tour of the models of the missions with Italian participation and the final astroquiz .
Today the exhibition “Exploring Moon to Mars” closed, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, the President of ASI, Giorgio Saccoccia and the ESA astronaut, Samantha Cristoforetti. The exhibition was organized by ASI, in the setting of Piazza San Silvestro in Rome, under the patronage of Roma Capitale, in collaboration with ESA, INAF and the support of Leonardo and Thales Alenia Space Italia.
In the morning, ASI President Giorgio Saccoccia participated in the event ‘A law for Space’ promoted by the Leonardo Foundation, Rome University ‘La Sapienza’ and SDA Bocconi. The event was attended by the Ministers of Business and Made in Italy with responsibility for space and aerospace policies, Adolfo Urso and Defense, Guido Crosetto.
On the second day dedicated to space, President Giorgio Saccoccia took part in two other events dedicated to space exploration and the space economy. The first ‘Luna and Italy. Turin and the future of space exploration’ was organized by the Istituto Affari Internazionali and the Politecnico di Torino, while the second, the ‘Space Economy Aperitalk’, by the Association of Companies for Space Activities, AIPAS.
The National Space Day was established by the Italian Government in 2021, to raise awareness and inform Italian citizens about the contributions that science and technology applied to space bring to the improvement of the human condition. In addition to the events promoted by ASI, there were numerous events organized by public administrations, research institutions, universities, museums and companies that recorded the full success of this day. Abroad, in dozens of Italian diplomatic and consular offices, the Day was celebrated with the exhibition ‘Looking Beyond’, created by the MAECI with ASI and Telespazio/e-geos.
