The naval company PT Republik Palindo, a subsidiary of Republikorp in Batam, Indonesia, has begun producing attack submarines equipped with air-independent propulsion technology (AIP).
In the construction of this attack submarine, PT Republik Palindo collaborates with an Italian company, Drass Galeazzi Srl.
Both sides signed a memorandum of understanding for the joint production of Midget DG 550 class submarines and autonomous attack submarines.
The submarine has a length of 30-50 m, with a crew of 9-15 people with the ability to launch four torpedoes, plant sea mines and infiltration missions.
Drass Galeazzi Srl is an Italian company with over 100 years of experience in the production of submarines and rescue ships.
The DG 550 Midget class submarines and autonomous attack submarines produced by PT Republik Palindo and Drass Galeazzi Srl have the ability to maneuver nimbly on the high seas and small straits.

While the Autonomous Attack Submarine is an unmanned underwater platform used to perform underwater reconnaissance missions and ambush missions of coastal ships.
“We carry on this collaboration as our seriousness to support the independence of shipyard technology in Indonesia in the field of Midget-class submarines,” Sergio Cappelletti, CEO of Drass Galeazzi Srl. told local media crews.
Meanwhile, Republikorp founder Norman Joesoef said Indonesia’s largely aquatic territory needs more submarines to bolster maritime defenses.
In addition, the Navy needs communication technology that is able to ensure the integration of all elements of the fleet, including the chain of command, control, communication, computers, intelligence, observation and reconnaissance.
“This is the platform of the future that we must master. Another force that can cause disruptions. We hope that this platform can soon be realized for further consideration in the future by the Navy,” he explained.
The strength of the Navy, Joesoef said, is absolutely necessary to maintain the sovereignty of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia.
“We are an island nation that depends on free sea routes and we have to control. Mastery of military equipment at sea is an important issue that must be prioritized in building our national resilience today,” he explained. Source Kompass.com
