In recent days in the training areas of Alto Friuli, the “Osoppo 2022” exercise took place, the third activity to verify operational capabilities, organized in 2022 by the “Julia” Brigade, after the Monte “Antelao” in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige and the “Pieve di Cadore” in Sardinia.
In the 72 continuous hours of exercise, the command posts of the three Alpine Regiments and the Cavalry Regiment, deployed in the central area of Friuli Venezia Giulia, were coordinated, with the fulcrum of the exercise aimed at verifying the intervention capabilities of the Army units.
In this case the 3rd Artillery Regiment of Remanzacco has deployed the “Conegliano” group in support of the operations of the “Osoppo ’22” in the air base of Rivolto (UD), home of the 2nd Wing of the Italian Air Force. The capabilities of the Joint Fire Support Team of the Alpine Artillery were evaluated, which managed the coordination of fire support in favor of the maneuvering units by the artillery batteries with FH70 howitzers, an MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) battery in competition from the 5th “Superga” Regiment and, through the highly specialized assets present, also the support to the fire by air components of allied countries, thanks to the intervention of US aircraft from the nearby base of Aviano, which participated in the exercise.
The black pens deployed received the visit of the Commander of the Italian Alpine Troops, General of the Army Corps Ignazio Gamba who, accompanied by the Commander of the Brigade, Brigadier General Fabio Majoli, had the opportunity to verify the training activity in the field. The exercise had a multinational connotation with the use of personnel from the Hungarian, Slovenian and Austrian Armed Forces of the Permanent Planing Staff of the Multinational Land Force (MLF).
To further test the level of synergy of the dependent units, the “Julia” Logistic Regiment carried out a supply column, which saw a total of about 30 tons of material move from the Merano headquarters to the Airport of Rivolto, supported by a Company of the 2nd Engineer Guastatori of Trento, which carried out reconnaissance and reclamation activities of the itineraries
The “Julia” Command and Tactical Support Department of Udine has also set up a field hospital, Role2, in the Gemona del Friuli area, where, throughout the exercise period, emergency health interventions and medical evacuation of the wounded of the deployed departments were simulated. Next exercise of the “Julia” will be the “Edolo” by the 5th and 7th Alpini in the area of Monte Bivera, on the border between Alta Carnia and Cadore.
