Segredifesa received yesterday General Venance Salvatori Mabeyo, Head of the Tanzanian People’s Defence Force (TPDF).
The visit took place in a frank and cordial atmosphere and allowed the General of the Army Corps Luciano Portolano, Secretary General of Italian Defense and National Director of Armaments, to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of military procurement.
As a premise of the talks, General Mabeyo provided a situational picture of the geopolitical role that Tanzania plays in the African chessboard. The discussion then focused on the East African nation’s interest in several Leonardo aeronautical products: the M-345 aircraft, replacing the K-8 aircraft, the C-27J aircraft and the AW139 and AW109 helicopters.
Tanzania has also asked for Italy’s support in terms of programs for the training of Air Force pilots and for the training of instructors.
In addition, General Portolano was able to confirm the role of Segredifesa as a reference interface in the context of the “Defense System” in support of the numerous partnerships in the defense sector already in place and those in progress as in the case of Tanzania.
Gen. Mabeyo is the eighth Head of the Tanzanian Defense Forces, in office since February 6, 2017, when he was appointed by the President-in-Chief of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. John Pombe Magufuli. Gen. Mabeyo enlisted in the TPDF on January 1, 1979, attended various courses at home and abroad, and assumed important positions, including the Chief of the Army, the Assistant Chief of the Armed Forces, and the Chief of Intelligence and Security of the TPDF.
