With a new announcement published in recent days in some financial newspapers, Carmelo Cosentino, Vincenzo Nicastro and Gianpaolo Davide Rossetti – Extraordinary Commissioners of Piaggio Aero Industries Spa and Piaggio Aviation Spa – have announced that they have extended to 18:00 Italian time on 19 June 2023 the deadline for the submission of expressions of interest relating to the purchase of the business complexes managed by the two companies, both in extraordinary administration. The decision, the company said, was taken “to allow some stakeholders – at their request – to have more time for the preparation of the necessary documents”. The deadline for sending the events was originally set for June 12, 2023.
The further week of extension meanwhile sees the Commissioner’s Body and company managers engaged in intense activity both on the commercial and research fronts. In the wake of participation in the most important events in the sector pursued so far, a delegation of the company is preparing to travel to France, next week, to participate in the Paris Airshow 2023, a bi-annual event that welcomes world players, both civil and military, aviation and aerospace at “Le Bourget” airport. The protagonist, once again, will be the P.180, exhibited for this occasion in MedEvac version (air ambulance).
At the same time, while the finalization of the numerous improvements to the P.180 for the units delivered to the Armed Forces is underway, the company’s engineering team is further intensifying research activities, also in Europe, to study the progressive application on the P.180 itself of the best technologies that will become available in the near future and thus maintain its high competitiveness worldwide.
“At the end of 2018, when it entered extraordinary administration, Piaggio Aerospace had production activity practically at a standstill”, explain the Commissioners. “As early as 2020, however, it resumed full operations in all business units and tangibly demonstrated, also through the results achieved, that it can be competitive in the markets in which it operates. We therefore want to continue this positive trend”, they add, “to better prepare it for the definitive relaunch under the guidance of a new owner”.
Piaggio Aerospace currently boasts a portfolio of orders and commitments of approximately 556 million euro, while the backlog of orders for the P.180 Avanti Evo is 17 units. The company also expects to break even at the end of 2023. Piaggio Aero Industries and Piaggio Aviation operate under the Piaggio Aerospace brand. The Group is active in the Aircraft and Engines business. The first is dedicated to the design, construction and maintenance of civil and military aircraft and includes customer service activities. The Engines business is dedicated to the construction and maintenance of aircraft engines.
