Unified the activities of the Italian site and the headquarters in Ditzigen (Germany) and doubled the number of jobs, Gorgonzola is an international center of excellence for air navigation support solutions.
Thales Italia inaugurates today the renovated headquarters in Gorgonzola, after the optimization that has allowed it to accommodate twice as many workers and become the only site in Europe for the company’s activities in the field of air navigation aid. The restructuring has made possible the unification in Gorgonzola of the NAS (Navigation Aids & Non-Radar Surveillance) activities hitherto divided between the Italian headquarters and that of Ditzigen in Germany. The Gorgonzola site has long been a global center of expertise for navigation support and non-radar surveillance, serving customers in 170 countries.
The optimization of the site has allowed the creation of 122 new jobs, which are added to the 110 resources already present, leading to a substantial doubling of employees. The recruitment of the new resources concerned in particular the engineering field (46 units), especially systems engineering, hardware and software specialists and new professionals such as Scrum Masters and Cybersecurity Engineers, but also managers Bids and Projects (30 resources) and Strategic and Operational Services (27 employees), who joined the proven technical experts already present in Italy. To date, employees of 13 nationalities operate at the Gorgonzola site, compared to only 2 nationalities present until 2019. Women represent 26% of staff compared to 15% in 2019.
The new layout of the site has made it possible to adapt the structure to the needs of the smart working philosophy. The principles underlying work management within the headquarters are in fact based on new models such as work-life integration, work by objectives, flexibility, change management, distribution of teams in clusters. This has led to a total absence of individual offices in favor of open plan work for the entire Thales population, including management. The number of workstations is less than the total number of employees and the estimated site attendance rate is 70% thanks to a dedicated desk rotation application .
Despite the significant increase in staff and the consequent increase in hours worked, the environmental impact index calculated in kg of CO2 equivalent per man-hours worked decreased from about 0.211 in 2021 to about 0.154 in 2022. “Gorgonzola aims to be a best practice for the Thales Group not only with regard to engineering hard skills but also and above all with regard to Diversity and Inclusion. Examples of this program are the new approach towards new graduates and young talents that we are developing and implementing in partnership with excellent universities in the territory and abroad to welcome the best Italian students and open up to other countries, but also the implementation of an increasingly agile New Way of Working, with increasingly dedicated solutions in terms of flexibility, smart working and digitalization”. Donato Amoroso, CEO & Country Director of Thales Italia.
