The delivery of the patrol vessel (OPV – Offshore Patrol Vessel) “Musherib”, the first unit of the homonymous class, took place at the Muggiano (La Spezia) plant, commissioned to Fincantieri by the Qatar Ministry of Defense as part of an acquisition program naval which has a total value of almost 4 billion euros and includes 2 OPVs, both to be delivered in 2022, 4 corvettes over 100 meters long and an amphibious ship (LPD – Landing Platform Dock).
Present were Khalid bin Yousef Al-Sada, Ambassador of Qatar to Italy, Staff Brigadier Abdulla Al Mazroey, Deputy Chief of the Qatar Navy and Commander of the Flottilla, Admiral Inspector Chief Giuseppe Abbamonte, Logistics Commander of the Navy, and Marco Acca, Deputy General Manager of the Military Ships Division of Fincantieri.
The “Musherib” patrol vessel, like its twin “Sheraouh”, launched in June 2021, was designed in accordance with the RINAMIL for Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) regulation and is a highly flexible unit with the ability to perform multiple tasks ranging from from patrolling to the role of combat ship.
It has a length of about 63 meters, a width of 9.2 meters, a maximum speed of 30 knots, and can accommodate 38 crew members on board. Last October Fincantieri delivered “Al Zubarah”, the first unit of the homonymous class of four corvettes belonging to the same program for Qatar.
